Sumayya Saleh is the Director of Litigation at Rights Behind Bars. Sumayya brings extensive experience litigating prisoners’ rights and other civil rights cases at the Southern Poverty Law Center, Civil Rights Corps, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. In those roles, she also managed case teams and supervised other attorneys. Sumayya also previously defended people accused of homicide offenses as a public defender in Florida. Sumayya utilizes an integrated advocacy approach and frequently works with community partners and directly impacted individuals to leverage litigation in support of social movements.
